The story of Mosbefængte Mogens comes from the children's book of the same name, written by Ida Christine Jacobsen in collaboration with composer Mathias Madsen Munch. It is a project that we continue to develop alongside Mathias, as it grows and evolves in scope.

Mosbefængte Mogens is a story that takes place in the atmospheric Nordic forest. It centers around a big, wistful troll who accidentally becomes best friends with a human girl. It's an exciting and educational story that touches on powerful topics such as loneliness, insecurity and feeling different. The project is a heartwarming story about the importance of supporting each other in difficult situations and feeling accepted.

After a very successful smaller trial show with prerecorded music from the Budapest Art Orchestra, at Viborg Animation Festival 2023, Mosbefængte Mogens received support from various funding bodies including Den Vestdanske Filmpulje and the Danish Film Institute, for further development. 

 

Mosbefængte Mogens officially premiered in June 2024 at Musikkens Hus in Aalborg, and was perfomed live by the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra to an audience of over 5000 schoolchildren and their accompanying adults. During the show, there is a beautiful and engaging animated story on the big screen that stands on equal footing with the music.

The overall experience therefore consists of:

• Live orchestra

• Singers performing live on stage

• Interactive sequences with the singers and narrator that engage the audience in the theatre

• Animated narrative sequences

• Interactive animated sequences that guide the audience through the physical activities; clapping, dancing and singing

• Abstract animation

By bringing together classical live music and animated sequences, we hope to create a new, exciting and popular format that opens the horizon for what animation can be used for.
